Many students have sat through an active shooter drill at school. The Tioga County Sheriff’s office recognizes unsafe situations don’t just happen between the four walls of a classroom.
“[There is a] potential for violence anywhere. We just want to be that much closer to being prepared,” said Lt. Shawn Nalepa, with the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office.
Officers practiced Saturday morning for an emergency that could happen on a school bus. The scenario acted out was an upset father wanting custody of his children, taking three people hostage on a bus.
“This scenario we don’t know what he’s going to do, and that’s what we’re trying to prepare for, is the unknown behavior from someone that wants to cause harm,” Nalepa said. "Just because something like this has not happened locally, doesnt mean that it can’t happen."
It’s a drill officers will keep running to be prepared for anything.
