  • Embezzlement happened from 2011 to 2018, prosecutors say

Reginald Green II, 36, was sentenced on Thursday to 23 months in federal prison after being found guilty of theft and embezzlement by a jury in December 2018, according to a news release by the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Middle District of Florida.

According to prosecutors, Green, a SunTrust Bank employee, took more than $171,000 from a customer from 2011 to 2018. He withdrew more than the client authorized, then directed the extra money into several of his own bank accounts, prosecutors said.

Green used the money to pay his mortgage and auto loans, prosecutors said.

SunTrust discovered the theft in April 2018. The bank fired Green and reimbursed the bank customer.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the U.S. Secret Service.
