GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – There is seemingly nothing Parkview Elementary fifth grader Kathleen Ha can’t do.

Her orthopedic impairment doesn’t really allow her the use of her hands. However, she has learned to use her feet to draw pictures, and as a big Harry Potter fan even cast spells.

Because of her impairment, Kathleen has to rely on a wheelchair to move around. As she gets ready for the school year to end, Kathleen is going out with a big surprise.

Wearing her wizarding hat, she makes her way out to an audience of the entire school. As the curtain is drawn, Kathleen receives the kind of magical mobile anyone would be jealous of - a custom movie-quality Harry Potter Wheelchair.

“I was shocked,” says Kathleen.

Her new ride is thanks to Magic Wheelchair, an organization that designs and builds costumes for children.

Kathleen’s special education teacher, who she has had since kindergarten, heard about the organization and knew immediately she had to apply for Kathleen, who overcomes so much every day. After applying last summer, Kathleen got her new set of wheels just in time for this summer.

“It brought a tear to my eye. I’ve been with her since kindergarten and now she’s in fifth grade. I know we have one more year with her before she moves on to intermediate school so I’m just so excited for her and I know this is a dream come true,” said her teacher Sarah Bautista.

Despite Halloween being several months away, Kathleen knows exactly who is going to win the best costume contest in the Fall.

“I’m excited for Halloween,” says Kathleen.

While there  is plenty of magic in her wheelchair, the real magic is in seeing how it makes her feel.

“Every day magic,” Kathleen says.
