AUSTIN, Texas – The University of Texas Quidditch team is celebrating with a round of butterbeers after they took home the Championship title.
- UT team wins Quidditch cup
- More than 80 teams participated
- Inspired by the Harry Potter series
Muggles cheered as the Texas Quidditch team won this past weekend's collegiate division of the U.S. Quidditch Championship in Round Rock. More than 80 teams from across the country competed for the Quidditch cup.
The sport is inspired by the Harry Potter series where players fly around on brooms in search of the Golden Snitch. In the wizarding world, the Quidditch World Cup has been played for 1,000 years.
While the players outside of the wizarding world can’t fly, they do stay true to the rules of the game.
UT has four intramural teams that play each other – Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw. There are also two traveling teams, Texas Quidditch and Austin Quidditch, that play other universities.
This is the fourth cup for the Texas Quidditch team.
