Parrish Medical Center was placed on lockdown just before 9 p.m. after the shooting and "large disturbance" in the 2800 block of East Main Street in Mims, just more than 3 miles away.
The Sheriff's Office said two male patients were transported to the hospital, where one was pronounced dead.
The agency has not released the identities of the people shot or said whether there are suspects in the case.
Officials at Parrish Medical Center said that because of the large number of people turning up at the hospital after the incident, they had to put it on lockdown because of all the activity.
