MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Brevard Zoo has been named one of the top zoos in the United States.

U.S. News & World Report included the Melbourne zoo on its list of the nation's 30 best zoos.

"The Brevard Zoo, which sits roughly 60 miles southeast of Orlando's theme parks and about 35 mile south west of Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, offers fun and delightfully educational activities in a manageable setting," the list said.

With more than 900 animals, the zoo offers special animal encounters, zip lining and a kayak tour.

"Central Floridians know Brevard Zoo is the go-to-place for family fun and learning," the zoo's executive director Keith Winsten said in a statement. "We welcome this honor and hope it inspires readers to come to see our Zoo for themselves."

Other Florida zoos that made the list include Zoo Miami, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and Lion Country Safari in Loxahatchee.
