DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- A physical altercation led to the fatal shooting of a woman and a man barricading himself inside a Daytona Beach home Saturday night, according to police. 

The incident happened at about 7 p.m. at residence in the 300 block of Maple Street near Orange Avenue. 

A witness driving by told police they noticed a physical altercation between two people and heard a gunshot before seeing a man drag a womanv toward the back of the house. The witness immediately called law enforcement, authorities said. 

The woman, later identified as 61-year-old Denise Jennings, was found in a wooded area behind the house. She was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The man, identified as 46-year-old Craig Kendrick, ran into the house and barricaded himself inside.

Police officers arrived and surrounded the house. 

After several attempts to get the suspect to surrender, SWAT team members forced their way inside the house and took Kendrick into custody. 

Kendrick was charged with first-degree premeditated murder and is being held without bond.
