ORLANDO, Fla. — Disney is banning smoking inside its U.S. theme parks, the company has announced.
- Disney to ban smoking, vaping inside its US parks
- The smoking ban change takes effect May 1
- Designated smoking areas will be located outside parks
Starting May 1, smoking areas will no longer be available inside Disney World parks or Disneyland parks, the company said March 28.
That ban also extends to the water parks, ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World and Downtown Disney at Disneyland, Disney said in blog post.
Designated smoking areas will be located outside the entrances of the parks and at Disney Springs.
Vaping will also only be allowed in designated smoking areas outside the parks.
Guests found smoking inside the parks will be asked to move to a designated smoking area, according to a Disney spokesperson.
In addition to smoking, Disney announced changes to its stroller size policy. Strollers larger than 31 inches wide and 52 inches long will no longer be allowed at the parks. In the change, which also takes effect May 1, stroller wagons are also banned.
Disney said the changes come as an effort to "help with guest flow and ease congestion."
Also that day, Disney banned loose or dry ice in coolers, effective immediately.
All the changes come ahead of the summer debut of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge. The 14-acre themed land will first open at Disneyland on May 31 followed by Disney's Hollywood Studios on August 29.
So far, none of the other theme parks have announced plans to change their smoking policies.
"We have a small number of smoking areas in each of our parks," Universal Orlando spokesman Tom Schroder said in an email. "They are located in out-of-the-way spots and have not been a source of concern for our guests. That said, we are always reviewing our policies and procedures."
