KISSIMMEE, Fla. — An 11-year-old has been arrested after authorities say he made threats against Neptune Middle School.

  • 11-year-old student accused of threatening Neptune Middle
  • Authorities say the threats were made on social media
  • Student to be charged with second-degree felony

This incident comes nearly one year since the Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland.

“I don’t care if he’s 11 or not,” said parent Janet Gillooly. “I am sure at 11 years old he knows how to use a gun then.”

The threats were made on social media, and he allegedly wrote messages like, “I am gonna shoot up Neptune,” and "I want every teacher to burn and I will use their ashes as paint."

Detectives also found a school notebook, and one of the sheets of paper read, “(Expletive) them, they are gonna die.”

Another page had a picture of a rifle, a can with flames shooting out of it, and what appears to be a body.

Gillooly who picks up her son from Neptune Middle every day, says this this is concerning, especially after her oldest daughter was at Virginia Tech back in 2007, and her best friend was shot by a gunman.

“When there is a threat like this I take it very seriously, because I know firsthand it really happens,” she explained.

While the Osceola County School District can’t release information about discipline or the student, they sent Spectrum News this statement:

“We continue to remind our student, parents, and community members that if they see something or hear something that is a threat, they should say something. We will always listen and respond. It is by working together that we will continue to provide a learning environment that is focused on student achievement and safety.”

“To prevent something we need to make an arrest, we’re going to do the arrest,” said Major Jacob Ruiz with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office. “Somebody violates Florida law, we have to ensure we enforce the law. Ultimately it's about the safety of our children and our staff.”

The middle schooler is being charged with a second-degree felony and is being held at the Juvenile Detention Center in Orlando without bond.
