The shooting happened on West Court, just off U.S. 1 between Titusville and Mims.
Deputies say a man and a woman were inside the home when two men broke in. At least one of the two was armed, Sheriff's officials said.
The male resident of the home then grabbed a gun and shot both of the men.
One of accused home invaders, later identified as 20-year-old Alvin Smalls, died in the home. The other man, identified as 18-year-old Amir Lynn, ran, wounded, down the street before collapsing a short distance away. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition, where he died.
It's still unclear what relationship, if any, there was between the accused home invaders and the occupants of the home.
"It's something we will look at: Are the people known to each other, what was the reason for them to select this house to commit the robbery, was there some knowledge that they had, and what was the motive behind it?" Sheriff's spokesman Tod Goodyear said.
One neighbor, Brenda Dennis, said there have been deputies at the home before.
