The shooting happened before 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Sundance Apartments, a complex along Johns Lake Road in Clermont.
"We're actively investigating and our officers and detectives are working hand in hand to try and identify this person," said Sgt. Malcolm Draper with the Clermont Police Department.
Witnesses heard several gunshots then saw three cars — silver, black and burgundy — taking off.
"We pulled up to the apartment and the guy behind us says he hears 25 to 30 gunshots go off in the apartment, and he hears a couple of vehicles speed off," neighbor Tyler Damron said.
Investigators said Dominic Dionisio Marquez, 24, of Winter Springs was shot and killed in the parking lot.
Another neighbor just got back from her shift working at Disney to suddenly find her apartment complex locked down for an investigation.
"I pull up to turn into the road to the apartment complex, and there was a line of cars. I was like, 'I don’t know what’s going on,'" Anna Garrison said.
Police said that they think this is an isolated incident and that the public isn’t in danger. They said they no longer were looking for any vehicles.
However, they still need the public's help in identifying suspects and gathering tips. Anyone with information is being asked to contact Clermont Police or Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
