According to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office, school officials discovered vandals broke into Pine Ridge’s Media Center overnight around 7 a.m.

Deputies say textbooks were destroyed and pulled off shelves, sinks were left running — causing extensive water damage — and several TVs and electronics were destroyed.

Fire extinguishers were also discharged, and “racially-charged” graffiti was reportedly written on the media center’s walls and whiteboards.

Authorities say maintenance crews will work to repair the damage over the weekend to assure the media center is safe and clean for student use.
