The ordinance prohibits the burning and ignition of open fires.
The burn ban was determined when the Keetch-Buram Drought Index, which measures drought conditions, met 500 KBDI.
The ban remains in effect despite rainfall in Orange County from Tuesday’s severe weather.
Additional rain could help alleviate current severe dry conditions, officials say, but the ban will remain in effect until the index drops below 500 KBI for seven days straight.
The ban doesn’t apply to outdoor burning authorized by Florida Forest Service, outdoor grills and barbeques for cooking, and permitted commercial firework displays.
