The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the disappearance of a 36-year-old Clermont man.
- Clermont man last seen in 2015
- Friend asked deputies to conduct well-being check
- Wife stopped cooperating during interview
A friend of Michael Shaver’s asked deputies to perform a well-being check on him. The friend said that he nor Shaver’s family had heard from him since 2015.
Deputies went to Shaver’s residence on Sandy Pine Road where they encountered his wife. The wife told deputies she hadn’t seen her husband since 2015.
Deputies were allowed inside the residence to look around. During the interview, Shaver’s wife stopped cooperating and said she would like her attorney.
"My understanding is that their conversation went outside to the back of the house, and that’s when it abruptly stopped. We were no longer allowed any access to the property after that," said Sgt. Fred Jones with the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities say Shaver's wife told them that he left. They say all of his bank transactions stop in 2015.
Shaver's wife has hired lawyer Jeff Wiggs.
Wiggs said deputies never went into the house and that she's been cooperating with authorities. He says she gave them names of people Michael Shaver had conflicts with.
Records show deputies were at the Clermont house in 2014 for a domestic violence incident. Michael Shaver was arrested for simple battery.
Michael Shaver's sister posted pictures of her brother on Facebook and said that his two children were his world, that he loved his family and that they're looking for answers.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help for information leading to Shaver’s whereabouts.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS (8477).
