TAMPA, Fla. — The deadline for Hurricane Irma victims to apply for Rebuild Florida aid has been extended.
- Application deadline for Rebuild Florida aid extended
- Deadline now March 29, 2019
- Victims of Hurricane Irma can apply for assistance
The deadline was Sunday, December 23, but has now been extended through March 29, 2019.
The federal government has allocated 700 million dollars toward helping families impacted by Irma. It's been more than a year since Irma slammed into Florida.
In the response stage after any natural disaster, there's federal assistance to make significantly damaged homes livable. However, this is for the families or business owners who are still dealing with the impacts of Hurricane Irma.
"After FEMA has left and the small business administration has provided funds and there are still families either homeowners or businesses that are still struggling to meet their needs, this program comes in to meet those needs and it will completely rebuild and fix a home," Deputy Chief of State Erin Gillespie said.
If you're one of the victims still dealing with the impacts of Hurricane Irma, you can register online at rebuildflorida.gov. You can also call 844-833-1010 during the week to help you complete everything.
There are also centers around the state that are helping people getting registered, along with buses that visit the most impacted areas to help people sign up.
Once you're registered and you're deemed eligible, someone will come out to your home to assess the damage.
It's also important to note that families with children, the elderly or disabled, and low income households are the highest priority for receiving assistance.
