CHRISTMAS, Fla. — It’s a week before Christmas, next Tuesday the exact date. And people are mailing out their items from right here in the Sunshine State.

Christmas, Florida in Orange County draws visitors from all over the state and country for those who want the joy of mailing their cards from "Christmas."
All letters mailed from the Christmas post office also are stamped with an official and special Christmas stamp and postmark.
On Monday — the United States Postal Service's busiest day of the year, marking a little bit more than a full week before Christmas — Lynn Cohen-Anderson drove up from South Florida to mail holiday cards from Christmas.
She was here for the first time.
"My husband had the crazy idea since he was off this week. He wanted to send his sister a card from Christmas, since she lives in Alabama,” she said.
John and Rojeana Roy actually planned a trip to Central Florida all the way from Maine. For them, it was a special treat to their vacation to Florida.
"We drove by here and decided we wanted to mail Christmas cards from here, so here we are,” John Roy said.
Locals also take in the yearly tradition. Cherie Johnson is a Christmas resident and has mailed Christmas cards from her post office during the holidays for 15 years.
"It just gives such a joy to all my friends and family in New York," Johnson said. "They just can't believe there's a place called Christmas in Florida."
The Postal Service considers the holiday mailing season the period between Thanksgiving to New Year's Day. Almost 16 billion pieces of mail and packages are expected to be delivered during this time.
Almost two billion pieces of mail, including greeting cards and packages, are expected to be processed and delivered this week alone.
