- She said that Erwin Ramirez had hurt her for 9 years
Erwin Jose Ramirez was arrested just after 1 a.m. Sunday, according to an arrest affidavit. He faces charges of felony battery domestic violence by strangulation and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Detectives said Ramirez and his wife had been arguing for days over how he treats the children, according to the report. Late Saturday night, she said he demanded she apologize to him and "came at her aggressively in the garage."
She tried to leave, but Ramirez wouldn't let her, nor would he let her use her cell phone.
Sometime during the argument, he grabbed a knife and her arm and said, "Tell me why I shouldn't kill you," the wife said. Ramirez then choked her and told detectives that "I felt my eyes bulging out of my head and I was unable to breathe."
She told detectives that for the past nine years, he's kicked and thrown her, pulled and ripped her hair and threatened her with various weapons.
Ramirez bonded out of the Lake County Jail on Sunday.
