CLERMONT, Fla. -- Several law enforcement agencies are searching for a state inmate who authorities say walked away from an outside work detail Thursday.
- Officials: Alinton H. John walked away from outside detail
- He was inmate at Lake Correctional Institution in Clermont
- Authorities seek silver Toyota pickup with Florida tag JHWC97
Lake County deputies and their K-9 teams, area police departments and the Florida Highway Patrol are assisting officials at the Lake Correctional Institution in Clermont in the search for 34-year-old Alinton H. John.
According to the facility's website, John was serving 15 years for aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He was set to be released Aug. 9, 2023.
The Florida Department of Corrections said John was working on the facility's motor pool when he walked away without permission. Inmates who are allowed to work outside details are minimum-security or community-custody inmates who have had no recent disciplinary issues, the agency said.
Authorities said all perimeters have been broken down since John is thought to now be well outside the area. They think he stole a car that may have had a gun inside.
Officials say they're looking for a stolen 2001 silver Toyota pickup with Florida tag JHWC97.
