One Florida technical college is stepping in to help the thousands of students left without a school after ITT Tech closed its doors.

  • Florida Tech reaching out to former ITT Tech students
  • Online courses most likely to be affected by influx of ITT Tech students
  • Qualified students may also get tuition discounts

Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne is now in the beginning stages of helping students from ITT Tech transfer due to the school's sudden closing.

“It was really shocking to see it happen so quickly, so I think a lot of us and Florida residents were unprepared to see it happen when it did,” said Florida Tech Vice President of Online Learning Brian Ehrlich.

With more than 40,000 students without a place to attend college, Florida Tech said it's reaching out to those students to give them an opportunity to finish their degrees.

Officials believe while they will see some ITT transfers attend their campus, the majority of student transfers will probably have more of an impact on enrollment in their online courses.

"Most of the ITT tech students fit the demographic of our online course students, where they’re working and going to school at the same time,” Ehrlich said.

Qualified students from ITT tech may also qualify for a tuition discount for online classes..
