The Crystal River City Council will select an interim member Dec. 14.

The seat will open next month when Councilwoman Paula Wheeler steps down. Wheeler announced her retirement to the council Oct. 26.

Whoever gets the job may not have it for long. The city will hold a special election to fill the position on March 15.

The three who have applied for the position are Bob Mercer, Jack Huegel and Andy Houston, according to the Citrus County Chronicle.

City Manager Dave Burnell told the Chronicle the approved applicant will be paid a monthly stipend.
