A worker at a Brevard County-based manufacturing plant suffered burns Monday morning after a machine exploded, officials said.
Officials with the Rockledge Fire Department said the man was working at LRM Industries International Inc., located at 135 Gus Hipp Blvd.
The explosion happened just after 9 a.m., officials said.
Investigators said the man was able to walk outside to a waiting ambulance, which took him to a helicopter. He was then taken via air to Wuesthoff Medical Center.
Firefighters contained the small fire at the plant. LRM Industries manufactures thermo-plastics. Officials with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration has been called in to investigate the incident.
In an earlier version of this story, News 13 reported the victim was taken to Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne. Rockledge fire officials later corrected their original report, saying the victim was actually taken to Wuesthoff Medical Center, in Rockledge.
