This line of work didn't start with Spaude, though. He grew up in a family with a love for all things racing. His grandfather first started riding in the 1960s and passed that passion on to Bret's father, who, in turn, passed it on to him.

He says his earliest memory at the track was around 8 years old. Now he's even continuing the tradition with a fourth generation: His son, who he can hardly keep off the track.

“This is very early," Spaude says of his son's age. "Normally for racing purposes they don't even start driving till they are 4, but my grandfather was all about it and wanted to get my son into it right away.”

And while his family shared the love of racing through the decades, and even owned a parts and motor store that sold to clients around the world, it wasn't until 2015 that Spaude opened the Bushnell Motorsports Park. The park boasts a 2/3-mile track where drivers can kick up some serious dust.

The track itself is used for high speed rental karts. It has a bridge and an underpass and 17 turns — one that is banked — making it the only competition kart track in the nation with these types of features.

It's an exhilarating rush to test your skills and speed out on the track at the Bushnell Motorsports Park, especially with a family as knowledgeable as Spaude's showing you the ropes to all things go-karting.

The Bushnell Motorsports Park is open Wednesday through Friday and open again on Sundays. You must come with closed-toed shoes, and anyone under the age of 16 without a license must ride one of the junior karts.

The park's hours of operation vary so for more information on the track hours and upcoming events, be sure to check out the Bushnell Motorsports Park website.
