Through Visit Orlando, a portion of every bill will go to its benefiting charity, which this year is Mustard Seed of Central Florida.

The Mustard Seed in Eatonville has been helping local families rebuild their lives after disaster or personal tragedy for the past 40 years, relying on the help of donors and volunteers to make it all possible.

Jeannie Spence is one of their most consistent volunteers at the Seed Boutique.

“It’s better than sitting home and doing nothing at my age,” Spence said.

She organizes all the items to make it easier for people who are going through the hardest moments of their lives to shop with dignity at no cost to them.

“They are hurting, the people that come here, so we are just fortunate that we can help them,” Spence said.

She has volunteered weekly for the past three years and got her neighbor Polly Macgruder to join as well.

“I said, 'Why don’t you come with me to Mustard Seed. I am sure that we could find something together',” Spence said.

Bringing light and laughter to their volunteering, the duo has even earned the nickname the “Golden Girls.”

“It is just fun to be a part of helping people,” Spence said.

They tackle work all across the Mustard Seed, which is also known for giving furniture to families and individuals. Spence and Macgruder make sure those who donate to the mission know they are appreciated.

“These are thank you letters going to the people who donate every month,” Spence said.

All the things that they accomplish are extremely important to Executive Director Kathy Baldwin. She said she only has 15 staff members, and Spence helps fill in the cracks.

“Jeannie is very passionate about the Mustard Seed, which makes a really big difference because she shares that with so many, but what she actually does for us is she helps us with those tasks that are difficult for the staff to find time to do,” Baldwin said.

She helps where she can to make sure the team can support people in need.

“If I can do something that makes it easier for the people that are helping the people, then it is a good day for me,” Spence said.

“She’s very giving and loving and loves to serve her community,” Macgruder said.
