U.S. Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, who has served in the Trump administration since 2017, announced her resignation, the first member of Trump's cabinet to resign in the wake of the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.

3. Gov. DeSantis on D.C. Violence: "Totally Unacceptable"

Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke about COVID vaccinations in Manatee County but opened his news conference talking about Wednesday's violent pro-Trump protests in Washington.

4. AdventHealth Hospitals Delaying Some Elective Surgeries Because of COVID Care

AdventHealth has entered red status because of the rising number of COVID-19 patients it is caring for and must hold off on some elective surgeries for now, the hospital group announced.

  • Newly elected Orange-Osceola State Attorney Monique H. Worrell will be inaugurated 3 p.m. Friday, January 8. 
  • The Orlando Fringe Winter Mini-Fest, which starts tonight, continues with both in-person and virtual events.
  • Due to "significant" increases in new COVID-19 cases, Orange and Osceola County courts will not hold jury trials and will not call jurors to appear from now through February 15, 2021.
