EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism announced Thursday that Academy Award-winning actor Jane Fonda will deliver the keynote address at this year’s commencement ceremony.
The ceremony will take place on May 16 at the historic Shrine Auditorium on USC’s campus.
Fonda’s career spans more than 50 years, having starred in over 50 films. Throughout her career, she has won two Oscars for best actress, seven Golden Globe Awards, two Tony Awards, three Screen Actors Guild Awards and more.
Some of her memorable films include “Barbarella,” “Coming Home,” “Klute” and “Fun with Dick and Jane.”
Fonda, 87, is also a writer, activist and former fitness guru. She also spends her time working on climate awareness and justice in what she calls her “Third Act.”
“Through the compelling characters she brings to life on screen and the bold actions she takes for the causes she believes in, Jane Fonda challenges us to see the world more clearly — its flaws, its strengths and our role in shaping a better future. She reminds us that communication — whether through storytelling, advocacy or dialogue — is an essential catalyst for positive change, and inspires our Class of 2025 to use their voices with purpose,” USC Annenberg Dean Willow Bay said in a statement on the school’s website.
The school is set to honor nearly 1,000 candidates for bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees in communication, journalism, public diplomacy and public relations. The ceremony will begin at 9 a.m.
USC’s Annenberg’s past speakers include Oprah Winfrey Billie Jean King, Maverick Carter, and Univision and Fusion anchor Jorge Ramos.
Last week, the USC Marshall School of Business announced that rapper, producer, actor and entrepreneur Snoop Dogg will deliver the 2025 commencement address on May 17.
