EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — The Santa Monica Pier’s Pacific Park is set to fly an animated America flag on its 90-foot Ferris wheel Wednesday as part of Flag Day.

The United States celebrates Flag Day on June 14 to commemorate the adoption of the American flag in 1777.

The Pacific Wheel is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel, according to the Santa Monica amusement park, featuring 174,000 eco-friendly LED lights mounted on its spokes and hubs to provide computer-generated lighting entertainment.

The Ferris wheel reaches nine stories high and lifts riders more than 130 feet above the Pacific Ocean to offer views of the Southern California coastline.

The celebration will begin Wednesday at sunset, around 8:07 p.m. It can also be viewed online.
