OCALA, Fla. — A Marion County Sheriff’s Office deputy is recovering after he was shot during an exchange of gunfire with a woman arrested during a traffic stop early Monday morning.

Investigators say the deputy had arrested 22-year-old Rheanna Harden during the stop, which happened at about 2:30 a.m. in the 2900 block of South Pine Avenue in Ocala.

Harden was charged with driving on a suspended license, giving false identification to law enforcement, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia.

While being taken to jail, Harden allegedly pulled a small-caliber handgun that she had hidden in the crotch of her pants and fired at the deputy, injuring him. Officials say the deputy returned fire and wounded Harden.

Both were taken to the hospital, where they were treated for their injuries and released.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating into the shooting.

No other information was immediately released.
