A 16-year-old student faces charges in connection to a stabbing in a Kernersville high school that sent another student to the hospital.
The Glenn High School student is recovering from stab wounds after a fight broke out at the school around lunchtime Monday.
The injured student was taken to a hospital, while other students were told to stay inside classrooms as authorities investigated, according to the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office.
The Winston-Salem teen arrested in the case is charged with assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury. He is bring held at the Alexander Juvenile Detention Center in Taylorsville and has a first court appearance Tuesday.
"We must never become complacent in acceptance of violence in our schools and against our children. We should all be outraged. The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office will always apply all of our assets and recourses when it comes to the safety of our schools, students, and teachers the safety will always be paramount," Forsyth County Sheriff Bobby Kimbrough said in a statement Tuesday.
"FCSO deputies were notified at approximately 12:15 p.m. that a student had injuries and needed medical attention, whereby EMS was contacted and transported the victim to a local hospital for evaluation," the sheriff's office said in a Monday news release.
Parents received the following message from the school:
"Good Afternoon, Glenn High School Families. This is a message from the WS/FCS Communications Department. We are aware of a fight that occurred on the Glenn campus a short time ago. We are working on details, and Principal Scott Munsie will be calling you with more shortly."
