Staff at AdventHealth Daytona Beach celebrated Jenny Sanchez Ampuero’s recovery by cheering in the hallways as she made her way out.
Ampuero says she was on a ventilator for four weeks, followed by a week of physical therapy where she had to learn how to walk again. Despite being separated from her family, she says the staff never let her feel alone.
"I want to thank all the people in the hospital who looked after me. They never left me, not at night, not during the day," said Ampuero in Spanish.
Ampuero believes she caught the virus during a trip to Ecuador, despite wearing a mask the whole time.
She hopes people realize how serious this illness is. She is worried many are starting to let their guard down.
