ORLANDO, Fla. -- Cirque du Soleil's traveling show Luzia has arrived in Orlando for a limited run.

  • Cirque du Soleil brings Luzia to Orlando
  • Performances March 7-April 21
  • Under the Big Top at The Florida Mall

Performances will held "under the big top" in the parking lot of the Florida Mall starting March 7.

Ahead of opening night, Spectrum News 13 was giving a behind-the-scene tour of the show.

Cirque du Soleil has constructed a giant tent in the mall's parking lot. It took eight days to set up the tent and other equipment. But it'll only take two days to break everything down.

The set up includes the main tent, where the show takes place, and an artists' tent where the performers can practice and work out.  The artists' tent also houses the props, costumes and dressing rooms.

Fun fact: 1,000 costume pieces are used on stage each night. And each costume is washed after every performance.

Inside the main tent, there are 2,600 seats around a moving stage.

The show itself inspired by Mexico, which each of the show's 10 acts representing different aspect of the country's culture. There are jugglers, contortionists, trapeze artists and hoop divers.

Throughout the show, the stage transforms, taking spectators from an old movie set to the ocean to an arid desert.

To top it off, the show incorporates a water effect in various scenes, which is supposed to mimic rain.

The whole experience is designed to be dream-like.

Luzia will be in town through April 21.
