A man is dead after police officers found him shot outside an apartment building near downtown Orlando.

Police officers arrived just before 9 a.m. Thursday at the scene just a few blocks west of the Amway Center, on the 800 block of West Jackson Street. There they found a 42-year-old man lying on the ground in a parking lot outside of the complex.

The victim died on the way to the hospital, police said. His name was not immediately released.

Police said whoever shot the man remains at large, but they did not immediately give a description of any suspects.

Officers did, however, tow a suspicious car, a green Toyota Avalon, from the scene.

"We are working this for a current homicide investigation. At this point, investigators do believe it occurred in this area," said Orlando Police Sgt. Jim Young. "The car being towed was a suspicious car in the area that's being towed for further investigation."

Police said they are looking to talk to any possible witnesses, hoping they can provide information on what led to the shooting.
