WINTER GARDEN, Fla - West Oange high school’s golfer, Shawn Coultoff has a family history of success on the links. Now this senior is hoping to create his own legacy and This prep star has already taken that first step towards future success.

"My dad played in college and professionally and brought me up on it. I loved it, so I kept going with it," said Coultoff.

Shawn has been teeing off on the golf course as long as he can remember. With his dad’s knowledge, he has received a lot of advice over the years.

"We started off with like the basics of course management, he wrote a book on course management, so I was younger I would play to that and it worked well," he said "Obviously, though out the years my game is a little different than his. I’ve altered it to fit me and I take a lot out of that still now."

Combine his experience with years of hard work and practice, Shawn is now committed to play golf at one of the top programs in college.

"I’ve committed to Florida State University," said Coultoff. "It has everything, somewhat close to home, couple hour drive. It has one of the best programs, top 5 multiple years in a row."

But before heading up to FSU, there is still a lot to take care of at West Orange.

"We actually feel like it’s the strongest team we have had since I have been here," he said. "I think we have a great chance to get out of districts and have a chance at states."

Winning in golf is tough, even if you play well.  But Shawn has seen some success inside the links at his time at West Orange.

"It’s a sport you don’t win every time but I have won a couple of high school events, I won the West Orange Invitational last week (Sept.13th). It felt nice, coming down the stretch you feel strong," said Coultoff.

Despite the challenges the game of golf provides, he has lofty goals for his future in the sport.

"I'm hoping to take it top collegiate level," he said. "Then to go from college would be to have a successful professional career and be the best in the world."
