BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A pedestrian was hit and killed as he attempted to cross US 1 in front of oncoming traffic, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. 

The crash occurred at about 7:05 p.m. Saturday at US 1 and Baldwin Drive in Brevard County. 

Troopers said a Toyota was traveling southbound on US 1 when 54-year-old James Newman walked into its path.  Newman was not in a crosswalk, according to the report. 

Newman was pronounced dead on scene. 

The crash remains under investigation.
