OCALA, Fla. — A week after a shooting at a Marion County high school, school officials asked everyone to wear green on Friday to show support.

Last Friday, authorities responded to an active shooter on campus at Forest High School. A 17-year-old student was shot in the ankle. The alleged shooter, Sky Bouche, is facing several charges, including terrorism and aggravated assault with a firearm, in connection to the shooting at the Ocala high school on April 20.

Earlier this week, students attended an appreciation assembly in the school's gym. Student leaders thanked those who helped during Friday's shooting like first responders and teachers.

Students now say they are trying to get their school spirit back up, and school officials wanted the students to know they are not alone.

"Everyone across the county and state and country: We want everyone to wear green and show that you support Forest and what we’re going through," student body president Kaye Alabaugh said.

The hashtag #ForestStrong was posted on the fence outside the school. People at the school asked everyone to wear green and post pictures with that hashtag or use #ForestFriday.

Support from community

For the employees of a nearby Zaxby's -- it was important to stand with the students.

"We had our employees come stand by the chicken out here. We want to show that we do support them, and it was the students who did it too, so it was pretty awesome," said Savannah Hughes, Zaxby's catering specialist and a graduate of Forest High School.

The chicken at the Zaxby's on SE Maricamp Road is for Forest High School, and it's one of the many things on display for the school.

On Twitter, people used #ForestStrong, #ForestFriday, #GoGreen and #WeAreForest to show students their support.

"I graduated from there; our higher-ups graduated from there. We're so close to them so we try to help out any way ever," Hughes said.

The restaurant not only supported the school by wearing green on Friday, but a week ago, they also delivered food to the first responders when employees heard about the shooting.

"We need to get these guys some food, we know they haven't eaten, and we just try to support the community as best we can," Hughes said.

Ocala's mayor also declared April 27 as Forest Friday.
