The Drive to December could once again go through Orlando.

Negotiations between the FHSAA and the City of Daytona Beach failed to produce a contract for the 2016 State Football Championships. So now the state's high school sports governing body will begin a 30-day negotiation with the Central Florida Sports Commission.

The City of Daytona Beach had put in a bid to host this year's title game at the Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium.

The statement released by the FHSAA stated "the 30-day negotiating window between the Florida High School Athletic Association and the City of Daytona Beach regarding the hosting of the 2016 FHSAA Football State Championships ended without both sides coming to an agreement. The failure to reach a deal was a result of both sides not agreeing to the legal wording in portions of the contract, as well as unforeseen overhead expenses realized by the host once the negotiation process began."

The high school football championships have been played at Orlando's Citrus Bowl since 2007. Other locations since the championships began in 1963 include the University of Florida and Sun Life Stadium in South Florida. Daytona Beach Municipal Stadium hosted the title games in 1989 and '90 and 1993-96.
