Two simple signs mark the outside of Edgewater’s practice facility, start fast, and do your job. Simple enough but those 5 words are the pillars of the foundation Edgewater is building under new head coach Chris Leak.

“You always want to start fast as a team,” said Leak. “You want to start the game off fast, start the game off right. And the way you do that is by preparing well, you do your job by preparing well, you study your playbook.”

“If we do it fast and we do it right, that’s all he wants,” said junior wide receiver Ezekiel Cooper.

In their Spring game Edgewater fell to Mount Dora, but the changes of going fast on offense and defense are already paying off.

“Knowing that you can play like that towards another team,” said Cooper. “They don’t know what’s coming so it’s real good.”

Leak isn’t afraid to get out there and show off his arm that helped lead the University of Florida to a national championship.

“I had a long playing career in football, I played at all levels and that part is always going to be in me. Sometimes I have to take a step back and let my players play.”

When they do play the Eagles have their sights on the season not ending until December

“The number one goal is to win a championship, and that’s our goal from day one, we want to win a state championship, we want to be in a state championship,” said Leak.

“I’m just ready, ready to win, ready to get a ring,” said Cooper.

For Leak and the Eagles the theme this spring is...so far, so fast, so good.
