The Florida High School Athletic Association football playoffs will now be known as the “Drive to December,” the FHSAA announced Monday.

The winning submission was made by 34-year-old Lakeland resident Mike Thompson. Drive to December was one of 425 names submitted from diehard football fans across the Sunshine State on FHSAA.org from April 25-May 3.

From there, the list was narrowed down to the final five by a blue ribbon prep-sports media committee. The five were announced May 10, with voting concluding May 13. Drive to December received 29 percent of the vote, followed by Gridiron Glory Series (24 percent). Destination December (20 percent), The Great Eight (16 percent) and Stairway to State (11 percent).

The 2016 Drive to December culminates with the state championship games slated for the first two weekends of December. The location is expected to be announced soon.
