An offensive outburst in the first 14 minutes of the 5A Championship propelled Oviedo to their third state title in the last six years, as the Lions took down Lourdes Academy 3-1 in the final game of the 2015-16 girls soccer season.

UCF signee Payton Grewal opened the scoring in the 9th minute with her 22nd goal of the season, off an assist from Camille Copperthite. Then just :18 later Copperthite pounced on a misplayed ball from Lourdes goalkeeper Amanda Puig and lofted a shot into the goal to give the Lions a 2-0 lead. In the 14th minute, Copperthite scored again, for her 17th goal of the season, with Grewal on the assist.

Lourdes scored in the 67th minute on an unassisted goal from Victoria Munoz, her 21st of the season. But the Oviedo defense, led by Madi Allen, Erin Mikalsen, Tesa Simmons and goalkeeper Brianna Waggoner held the Bobcats scoreless the rest of the way to clinch the championship.

For Oviedo (21-2-0), it's their third state championship, but the first one that did not go to penalty kicks, something head coach Scott Waisanen appreciated, calling it, "less nerve-wracking." Lourdes (21-3-2) finishes as the state runner-up for the second time in school history, after also falling to Oviedo in the 2013 5A Championship.
