2A GIRLS STATE WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

After the 2A Girls State Weightlifting Championships wrapped up Saturday, there are three new names in the record books.

199-pound champion Victoria Jefferson of Ocoee benched 250 pounds in the bench press to break the record set just Friday. The junior finished with a total of 435 pounds.

In the Unlimited weight class, both events ended in new state records. Timber Creek’s Amara Wiggan put 260 on the bar for the clean and jerk, taking the record set by her teammate Angelica Figueroa just last season. Evans’ Desire Davis benched 280 pounds, which tied her for the record put up in 2009.

Spruce Creek’s Brittany Bentzoni took 1st place in the 110-pound class, totaling 315 pounds in a close race. Also taking 1st from the Central Florida area was Lake Mary’s Judith Mandujano-Rodriguez with a total of 400. In the 183-pound weight class Sunlake’s Brianna Anderson put up personal best lifts for 1st place. 

 

1A GIRLS STATE WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIPS

River Ridge High School in Pasco County dominated Friday’s 1A Girls State Weightlifting Championships with two girls taking first in their division. In the 110-pound weight class Callista Durrett lifted for a combined 280 pounds, while Crystal Gwinn took first in the 101-pound class. River Ridge also had two 2nd place finishers, 119-pound lifter Alisha Dudeck and Sydney Hesterhagen of the 199-pound division.

Nature Coast Tech High School finished 2nd in the team standings with two 1st place finishers as well. 129-pound Ashley Gentz lifted a personal best 170 in the bench press, while junior Samantha Traudt took 1st in the 139-pound division. The Sharks finished 2nd in the team standings.
