Former Florida Gators quarterback Chris Leak became the sixth head coach in the last seven years at Edgewater High School on Thursday in College Park.
Leak was the starting quarterback for Florida from 2003-2006 and led the Gators to a victory over Ohio State to win the 2007 BCS National Championship.
He was not taken in the 2007 NFL draft but was signed to a free-agent contract by the Chicago Bears. Leak only played for the Bears during one preseason game and was cut by the team early in the regular season.
Leak also played in the Canadian Football League from 2008-2011 and was a member of the 2009 Montreal Alouettes Grey Cup Championship team.
The Arena Football League was the next stop for Leak, as he played for the Jacksonville Sharks in 2011 and the Orlando Predators in 2012.
Leak was also briefly on the Florida Gators coaching staff as a graduate assistant in 2013 and Wide Receivers coach in 2014.
Leak takes over a program that former Edgewater head coach Rich Bedesem compiled a 15-8 record in the past two seasons. Bedesem coached the Eagles to a 8-4 record and a district title in 2014 and a district runner-up showing in 2015 with a 7-4 record.
The Eagles have made playoff appearances in five of the last six seasons under five different head coaches. Edgewater lost to Bucholtz in the 2015 region quarterfinals.
