For seven Bishop Moore seniors, last week’s match against Oviedo signaled the end of the regular season ---

And one in which Mari Shurina continued her scoring rein—putting two in the back of the net to compliment her score two nights earlier against Lake Mary.

“I score goals but it’s not really me,” Shurina explained.”it’s the pass before the pass before the assist --or it’s the defense holding shutouts and the team work that wins the game”

Shurina has helped guide her team to the top finish in 2A-District 7 scoring 31 goals and eight assists at the end of the regular season.

She’s been a leader every step of the way.

“She’s definitely a role model, during practice, during games,” Coach Amy Geltz said. “When anybody is down she is ready to pick them up –just her presence being on the field is that she doesn’t quit and always gives her 110%.”

Shurina will be off to Eastern Carolina next season to play with the Pirates but right now for her and the 13 other teammates that felt the agony of defeat last year in the state semifinal--it’s about leaving their mark this season and making another run at a state crown.

Tuesday night the Hornets defeated Father Lopez, 8-0 and will now advance on to meet Lake Highland Prep Wednesday night in district championship.
