Brendan Rodgers is going from Lake Mary High School to the MLB. The former Rams shortstop was chosen third by the Colorado Rockies in Monday night’s first round of the 2015 MLB draft.

Rodgers was in New Jersey for the action, one of only four players in attendance. The 18 year old was the first high school player chosen Monday night, and interestingly enough, the third shortstop in a row.

Friends, teammates and Rodgers’ girlfriend watched the draft from a living room in Lake Mary, cheering loudly when his name was called. After they joked that the congratulatory dinner was “on him.”

Ryan Mountcastle of Hagerty High School was also chosen in the first round on Monday night, going 36th to the Baltimore Orioles. Mountcastle played shortstop and third base in high school.

Two Central Florida pitchers were taken in the second round, Brady Singer and Juan Hillman. Eustis High School’s Singer was taken 56th by the Toronto Blue Jays. Hillman of Olympia High School was drafted 59th by the Cleveland Indians.
