During the summer months, BHSN will be revisiting some of our best Athletes of the Week from the 2014-2015 school season to catch up on what’s new.

Back in January, we introduced you to Destinee Walker, a guard for Lake Highland Prep, who wanted to see the Highlanders basketball team make it to the state tournament in Lakeland. At the time Destinee was fresh off scoring 50 points in the Showdown in O-town contest. The senior and University of North Carolina signee made sure LHP would go home state champions, scoring 34 points in an overtime win against Dunbar, including draining a deep 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.

"Yeah my mom says that," Destinee says recalling the big shot. "She says I was already crouching down like ahh!"

Destinee finished her high school basketball career a State champion.

"It feels great because I’ve been playing Lake Highland basketball since 6th grade and I always looked up to the people like Lexi Brown and Shannon Crenshaw that used to play here and I always had a dream to play in states and so 8th grade when I joined the varsity team it was always a goal of mine to get over the Jones hump and get all the way to states."
