In walk off fashion senior short stop Rachel Mazzurco smacked one right over left field to seal Forest’s first ever bid to the 6A title game, 2-1.

After seven scoreless innings it was Oakleaf(19-12) who scored first in the top of the eighth.

With runners on the corners sophomore shortstop Mika Garcia dribbled one in between second and third base creating enough space for Lady Knight’s lone run to score.

Then it was time for Forest(28-2) to kick it into high gear.

Molly Shutters opened the bottom of the eighth getting on base, setting up Mazzurco to play clean up.

“I just knew I wanted to win this game and whenever I was up to bat I knew I had to make contact,” Mazzurco said after registering her fifth homer of the season Friday night.

“I knew I didn’t want this to be my last game. I wanted to get to the state championship and now that we are there I can’t ask for anything more than to win. “

Wildcats junior Morgan White controlled the tempo of the game striking 10 out and only allowing five hits as her team advances to its first state championship game.

“My job is to pitch,” White said. “My job is to not just strike people out but place the ball where my team can field it so that we can be successful and get the out.”

Forest will go on to play Chamberlain in the 6A State Final Saturday at 7:00pm live on BHSN Channel 1147.
