There’s fast – and then there is Chauncey Gardner fast. The Cocoa junior winning the 2A 100 and 200 meter dashes for two gold medals around his neck – and two trips to the podium.

“Great feeling knowing I worked hard all year. This is what I have been working for all year, to be a state champion because my name is in the books now, nobody can take it from me,” said Gardner.

Chauncey can come off as a bit confident, a little larger than life. But it’s all part and parcel of his competitive nature.

“What makes him special is he works really hard. He refuses to come in second, second is not acceptable for him. I think it helps him out in life period. He always tries to do the best he can and anything under the best he can is not acceptable to him,” said Gardner’s track coach at Cocoa, Tyrone Giscombe.

Chauncey’s speed on the track translates to the football field as well. Rated as a 4 star cornerback, Chauncey is committed to the Florida Gators and showed his pride by chomping on the podium.

“I already know, Go Gators,” said Gardner, with a smile.

The junior is all ready for another state championship – this time on the gridiron.

“That’s what my main goal is, to win a state championship and then go on to the next level and win a national,” said Gardner.

“This year he is running on a different level so I can expect nothing but great things on the football field this coming season,” said Giscombe.

The speed on the track – will carry him well come game time.
