The Oviedo Lions’ bats were hot from the get go in last week’s state tournament down in Fort Myers and senior Shane Miller was mister on fire batting 4-for-7, garnering four RBI’s en route to helping his team earn its first ever baseball championship.

“I mean we practice every day hitting,” Miller said.

“We don’t do anything special just what every team would do, we just try to jump on them early and get an early lead so we can get ahead and our pitcher will be more comfortable throughout the game instead of feeling like they have to win it all.”

And that’s exactly what Miller and his teammates did, first rolling Durant 12-0 in the semifinal, in which 9 of their runs came in the first inning then punching in four in the first of the State Title game against Sarasota to go on to win it all.

“This is the first one ever, these guys I give all the credit to this team, they are a bunch of super kids that work so hard for everything they’ve gotten,” Lions Baseball Coach Harold Hitt said.
