The 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup will get underway June 6 in Canada, and former UCF forward Lena Petermann will live out her dream of playing on the biggest stage as she earned a spot on Germany’s roster.

A native of Otterndorf, Germany, Petermann received 2013 American Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year honors in her lone season as a Knight. She also was on the All-AAC First Team, AAC All-Rookie Team and the AAC All-Tournament Team that year. Petermann tallied eight goals and 20 points en route to helping the Knights claim the conference title.

Petermann signed a professional contract with German club SC Freiburg in the fall of 2014 after playing in the FIFA U20 World Cup. During the tournament, she netted three game-winners including the lone goal in the 98th minute of the title match vs. Nigeria to give Germany the trophy.

Petermann also competed for Germany in the 2010 and 2011 UEFA Women’s U17 Championships and the 2010 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup.

Germany will open the 2015 Women’s World Cup in Group B, taking on Ivory Coast June 7 and Norway June 11, both in Ottawa. It will then battle Thailand on June 15 in Winnipeg.
