Orange City University's magic ran out.

The Titans were defeated in the Class 8A state championship game 10-1 Thursday night by Miami Columbus.

University had shocked the high school baseball world by emerging from a No. 8 seed in their district tournament, to taking down former nationally ranked No. 1 Olympia and beating Timber Creek 4-1 to advance to the title game.

They displayed a little bit of that magic in the top of the first. Thanks to three errors by Columbus, the Titans were able to score a run by Quenell Rutledge to take a 1-0 lead.

Columbus tied it up at 1-all in the bottom of the first with Jackie Urbaez's two-out RBI single. The Explorers took the lead in the second with three runs.

University made a pitching change in the bottom of the third from starter Danny Acevedo to Dylan Stevens. Stevens helped retire the side.

Columbus extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth with six runs, highlighted by Alain Santana's two-run inside the park home run. The Titans made another pitching change in that inning, replacing Stevens with Trevor Sozio. Sozio struck out the 10th batter in that inning to stop the scoring.

In the fifth, University's Nathan Peden broke up Santana's no-hitter bid with a double to right field. But the Titans weren't able to capitalize, stranding runners at first and second.

Cory Rolston came in for the Titans in the bottom of the sixth and helped retire the side to prevent the Titans from getting 10-run ruled.
