There was little rest and relaxation for Olympia High School’s girls lacrosse team as they closed out their Spring Break handing Jacksonville’s Ponte Vedra a big time loss on a 16-15 decision.

It was freshman goalie Katie Collier who had 12 saves and junior forward Ashley Matthews who netted seven goals to propel the Titans past one of the states very best.

“There was a lot of practice that went into that game,” Olympia coach Elyse Delisle said.

“By the time she [Katie Collier] got into that game she was just really ready to go and on and it was just one save after another-I don’t think she really stop to think that game which is usually when you are playing really well.”

“I was just kinda focusing on the team and I feel like we were doing so well as a team,” Collier explained. “Everyone was contributing that I didn’t have to focus on myself, everybody was doing great.”

Including her first home Ashley Matthews who scored a season high seven goals.

“It was just my instinct,” Matthews said. “It was working, I knew I had to keep doing it to win because I wanted to win so bad and it worked and I was like freaking out.”

It was sweet revenge for the Titans defeating Ponte Vedra as it was Ponte Vedra who knocked them out of the state final four last year.

Now it’s all about carrying the momentum onto the playoffs.
