Three boys. Three football players. Three wrestlers – each one better than the last?

“You always hear that story when there is a chain of brothers. Everybody always says the little brother is the best one, and it is usually not true. In this case, it probably is true. Even though the older two are great, Dylan is special. He is elite,” said Rodney Wells, Dr. Phillips football coach.

Alton is the oldest, and is a former quarterback at Dr. Phillips with a state championship in wrestling of his own. Colby is the middle Meeks, the largest by far, and an offensive lineman at Colorado State. Dylan is the youngest and exceling early as a two time state champ, with just as bright a future on the gridiron as well.

“For me, it was always very competitive because I don’t like losing. I am 4 years younger than Alton, 2 years younger than Colby so it takes a lot to make up for that.  I won occasionally, and that was a good feeling, so I really learned to compete just from being with my brothers,” said Dylan, when talking about his competitive nature.

It started at a young age for Dylan, always the one two steps behind. His parents remember when he was too little to wrestle and had to watch his brothers from the stands.

“Dylan would go to tournaments, and he would cry because he wanted to wrestle. He got his wish when he was 4, and then he would cry sometimes because he didn’t want to. But he learned to fight at an early age. Some of that was competition with the brothers, but he is naturally just kind of a grinder,” said Sanford Meeks, father of Alton, Colby and Dylan.
